Instal the new Knight vs Giant: The Broken Excalibur

Knight vs Giant: The Broken Excalibur is a game that I purchased day one and have since completed all of its achievements. While it shows great promise, unfortunately, it suffers from a couple of issues that could be easily resolved to make it a must-try for fans of the franchise.

Firstly, the story is well-known and the gameplay mechanics are fun. The visuals are also already impressive, with a top-down perspective featuring miniaturized characters. It has a similar feel to standard JRPG games, but without the dated pixel art style. In terms of sound design, the game features an excellent soundtrack that complements the different biomes.

However, two issues make the game divisive at best. The first is the problem with hitboxes, where players have reported receiving damage even outside of the designated hit zones marked by red circles. This can be frustrating and affect the gameplay experience.

The second issue is the short playthrough time, which may not satisfy completionists. It's possible to reach 100% achievements in just 20-30 hours, which is relatively quick compared to other roguelikes. On the bright side, every run starts from scratch, allowing players to experiment with different builds and strategies.

One of the unique aspects of Knight vs Giant: The Broken Excalibur is its take on King Arthur's legend. According to the story, Merlin casts a spell to trap the giant in an astral dimension, but unfortunately, takes the rest of Camelot with it. The Knights of the Round Table release the Void Giant after retrieving the Holy Grail for Merlin.

Despite these issues, Knight vs Giant: The Broken Excalibur already has the makings of a great roguelike title. With some tweaks to address the hitbox problem and add more content to extend the playthrough time, this game could be an absolute must-try for fans of the genre. For now, it's still worth giving it a shot to see if you can overlook its flaws and enjoy the fun gameplay and interesting storyline.
